42,861 MILES, ON EBAY 02/08, SELL WRITES: This 1974 Jaguar XKE - 12 Cylinder is a great original with 42,861 actual miles. The car is completely original and in great mechanical condition. The car has just had a new stainless steel exhaust front to back installed. The carburators have been rebuilt due to years in storage. The car drives and the manual transmission shifts very smoothly. All the brakes work. The outside paint is in good condition with a few marks here and there. The car has no rust and to our knowledge has never been in an accident. The interior is in very good condition, both seats and carpet. Both headrests are there, but do need some attention. The dashboard is in good shape...all lights, indicators, gauges, and switches are working. The AC blows but will need to be charged. The convertible top is in excellent condition is black in color. The rear in the convertible top is slightly fogged. The hard top that goes with the car is in excellent condition and the rear window is in excellent shape. All chrome on the car is in good to excellent condition and no pitting or rust. The glass on the car is in excellent condition with no scratches. The engine compartment is in absolutely original condition. The sheet metal under the spare tire is in very good condition. The orginal boot for the convertible top, the knockoff wheel tools along with the jack are in place. All the original keys and original owners manual as shown in the pictures are there. The car has been owned by a local individual for approximately 20 years. The car can be seen at almost any time with some notice.

Car returns to ebay 11/19/08
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $14,100 reserve not met, 21 bids, 8 days left in auction. Car now located in Lewisboro, New York.

Sellers description:
This remarkable car is in exceptional condition. This was stored in a garage for some time before I got it. It was nearly original, except the paint, which was a very good paint job in the original color, and then hand sanded for a gorgeous shine.

I have one of the best mechanics for Jaguars anywhere (his own first car was a V12 XKE), I told him I wanted a reliable driving car, done right, he did a nose off service where he removed, flushed and repainted the radiator and shrouds, he replaced: all the hoses and belts and water pump and engine seals, a new starter and alternator, new slave and master cylinders, new power steering hoses and brake hoses, Spax front shocks, ball joints etc., all were replaced. He recharged the AC which works perfectly. I removed and cleaned the inside of the fuel tank and installed a new sender unit (ask me about this, it might need adjustment) and cleaned the entire fuel delivery systems.

The engine is incredible. No oil leaks, no smoking. A V12 whirs to life when you start it and while cruising, and then roars when you put your foot down. Oil pressure is perfect, 60-80 when cold with 20-50W and 40 PSI at idle when fully warm. New Dunlop tires and tubes, new battery, and a full stainless exhaust system were installed. Everything works correctly, even the clock. It starts right up, runs incredibly, sounds incredible, drives wonderfully. The mechanic loves this car, which could be an everyday driver, or your weekend show car in an unrestored class? I’d just drive it, often. Every time I open the garage I smile just looking at it.

The interior is in VG condition. One tear in the driver seat needs sewing. The rest of the interior and carpets are excellent as are the mats. All the interior fabrics and dash are excellent too, They are very black though the pictures make them look grayish, the seats and head rests are excellent and comfortable too. One armrest needs repair, a bit of leather cleaner and you'd be good to go. The new paint matches the factory silver and matches the original trunk and sills (sills are perfect, not painted and no rust, the trunk is perfect and no rust.) There are chips on the edge of the bonnet from rubbing the cowl, this was re shimmed with new factory shims. Minor superficial rust near the battery and in a few engine compartment areas, but no rot at all. It would probably clean up with a scrubby. A few paint scratches, for instance the previous owner rested the hard top on the back of the car. A few hundred dollars at a good body shop would make it 100% stunning.

The soft top is very good with a clear window. The tonneau is great and the matching hard top is excellent too. I’ll deliver the car, up to 250 miles for no charge, (I’ll trailer it or drive it to you, your preference) then take the bus home if I have too. Or I can arrange shipping, even out of the country. If you want a mechanic’s evaluation, I’ll drive it to a mechanic of your choice for a review for you. If you want to see the car, I live 50 miles north of NYC in Westchester NY. This is not a perfect show car, and you'll want to dress and polish it, this is an excellent candidate for a clean it and drive it car, or a light restoration if inclined. It is not messed up by bad mechanics, does not look like it was ever hit, and for a 35 year old car is really stunning.

The driving. What a blast. I mostly drove it with the top down regardless of temperature, the cockpit is comfortable and you sit so low, the seats hug you, the panel has rowsof switches and gauges, I think this is the closest to an airplane cars ever got. And then you have that cowl and that roar when you want it. This is elegance and performance and speed and grace and quality, all in a sleek nimble little body. The handling is lovely too.

I'm selling it, it is fabulous and fun, but I have no room and need the money.

Ebay item 8/8/10
www.xks.com) they have had everything we needed in stock and have offered great technical help. First we did hoses and belts with all clamps as a kit, including all heater hoses and the water pump and radiator core, Then the alternator and belts, starter motor, SS exhaust, engine mounts, slave cylinder, master cylinder, brake lines, new Koni classic fronts the rears were still good, new tires and tubes, a new electronic ignition, distributor and advance system, a "manifolds off" carb and top of engine cleaning and rebuild with removal of most of the emission control junk (it is all in the box of spares). The AC was recharged two years ago and works great, the radio works but who would listen to a radio in a car like this ? I have receipts, but don't waste my time asking for copies unless you want the car and are willing to discuss acctually buying it.

This is not my first British vehicle, I've worked on Ferrari and Lotus and Triumph and BSA motorcycles, I know how to maintain vintage, Lucas and quality items.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
