Car to be at auction 9/18
www.barons-auctions.com/view-lot/2508/for-sale-at-barons-auctions-1973-jaguar-e- ...

Auction description:
Jaguar Heritage, Classic and Sports Cars: 15 Sep 2018
Auction: 1:00pm, 15 September 2018 at Kempton Park Race Course
1973 Jaguar E-Type Roadster V12
Guide Price: £75,000 to £85,000
Manufacturer: Jaguar
First Registered: 1973
Model: E-Type Roadster V12
Registration No: OHP 982M
Mileometer: 46,500
Chassis No: 1S 1926
MOT: May 2019
Colour: White

The vendor has privately owned OHP 982M from September 1983 to present, during which time it has only covered approximately 6,000 miles, as verified by the MOTs from 1985 to 2018. For many of the early years of the vendor's ownership it was rarely used and kept in a warm dry garage. Just over 1,800 of this model were produced, with Jaguar numbers starting at 1001 so this one is the 925th one produced.

The original Jaguar 'Operating, Maintenance & Service Handbook' is included still in it's original tan coloured case. All original numbers match and a Jaguar - Daimler Heritage Trust certificate No. 15436 is included. The car was Ziebart undersealed from new and the fully detachable hard top is a rarity.

The car has been very well maintained, including the following work:
2003 - Renewed all water hoses & clips. New fuel pump and Luminition ignition system.
2007 - Uprated starter, a service, new exhaust and new clutch master and slave cylinder
2008 - Reconditioned radiator fitted. All new shock absorbers. £3,800 complete overhaul by a specialist.
2008 - 2 new doors, head lamp panels, o/s sill, disc brakes and pads, 4 new tyres, complete respray by Jaguar specialist.
2016- New water pump, header tank and steering rack
2017- Carb service and balance on rolling road. New clutch & flywheel reface.

The car has never been raced or rallied, it drives beautifully and successfully completed 4 appearances at the Laon International Classic festival in France.

The car was listed on The Market online auction site on 23rd July 2020. Sold to new owner from Knutsford for £75,000. Abbreviated and amended seller's description below.

Vehicle: An original UK convertible fitted with the mighty V12 engine and rare manual gearbox. It was first supplied by Henlys Coventry on 15th August 1973. It has since covered 46,900 miles. It comes complete with a factory hardtop and is a matching numbers example confirmed by the heritage certificate.

Outside: The bodywork was refreshed in 2008 with new doors, headlamp panels, offside sill and respray in its original colour by a Jaguar specialist. The folding black roof and rare factory hardtop are in great shape, both are taut and nice. The steel wheels and hub caps are in good condition and are shod with excellent Pirelli P400 tyres. The bonnet alignment is slightly out on the offside and requires attention.

Inside: The black leather seats are wonderfully settled. New carpets were fitted in 2018 with the door cards, steering wheel and gear knob all in great shape. In all it is lightly patinated. The boot is neat and clean, home to a very good spare wheel and tyre and the floor is utterly solid. It is fitted with an 8 track stereo.

Underneath: In 2018-19 the engine was removed and the bay stripped of ancillaries, the area was detailed and fitted with repainted or rebuilt components. All oil seals were replaced and a new clutch slave cylinder and alternator fitted. A new battery was installed. The work was carried out by Cotswold Car Restorations. It was Ziebart underlealed when new but has cracked in places and needs resealing.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
