This 1971 Jaguar XKE is a Series II roadster that was delivered new in light blue over dark blue leather with a black soft top, and it is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2L inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The seller acquired the car in 2001 and had it repainted in 2005, at which time the interior was reupholstered and the 15″ wire wheels and knock-offs were replaced. Other features include disc brakes, Smiths instrumentation, and a cassette player. This Series II roadster is now offered with a removed radio and air cleaner as well as a service manual, a tool roll, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.

The car was delivered new in light blue with a black soft top, and the soft top was replaced under previous ownership. In 2005, the exterior was refinished, and a protective coating was applied to the rocker panels according to the seller.

Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels are said to have been sourced from Welsh Enterprises under current ownership. They are mounted with Pirelli P4000 tires, and the steering linkage was replaced in 2005.

The car was delivered with dark blue leather upholstery from the factory, and work in 2005 reportedly included reupholstering the seats and console, refinishing the seat rails, re-covering the dash, and replacing the shifter boot. A cassette player is mounted ahead of the shifter, and the heater box was rebuilt in 2005.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges that extend across the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 52k miles, 4k of which were added by the seller over the past two decades. True mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six received a replacement wiring harness under previous ownership. Electronic ignition has been added, and the air-cleaner assembly has been removed.

Engine block stamping 7R11850-9 matches the engine number shown on the data plate affixed to the car as well as the included Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, and work in 2005 is said to have included replacing the clutch plate and rebuilding the rear end.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate indicates a date of manufacture of April 6, 1970, as well as serial numbers, the factory colors, and distribution in Canada.

The removed Motorola AM/FM radio and air-cleaner assembly will accompany the car along with a tool roll.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
