Car was at auction in '08
www.brightwells.com/3rdparty/orphanspress/classiccars/viewdetails.php

Auction description:
Lot number 92
Hammer value £18200
Description Jaguar E-Type S1.5 FHC
Registration SYC 67F
Year 1968
Colour Gunmetal
Engine size 4,235 cc
Chassis No. 1E35056
Engine No. 7E15759-9

This particular car is about as good as E-Types get, looking identical to its Series 1 predecessor apart from exposed headlights and more comfortable seats. The biggest weakness of the early cars was the clunky Moss gearbox, but you'll have no embarrassing graunchy moments in this Series 1.5 car because it was fitted from new with the much-improved all-synchro box.

In the current ownership since 1995, this E-Type originally started out in life as an American export market car but was repatriated in 1989 and converted to right-hand drive. In the early 1990s it was treated to a full restoration by a previous owner with all new chromework and a repaint in the superb Gunmetal finish you see today.

In November 1995 the engine was fully rebuilt by renowned Jaguar specialists VSE, since when the car has covered less than 5,000 miles. A new clutch was also fitted at the same time. In 2000 the car was fitted with Coopercraft front brakes, a four-pot conversion which transforms the stopping power of the car. A new brake master cylinder was also fitted and the rear brakes were fully overhauled in 2006.

In October 2005 the car was treated to a thorough going-over by E-Type specialists CMC of Bridgnorth, including a full overhaul of the rear suspension, a new propshaft, new engine, gearbox and exhaust mountings, rebuilt cylinder head, uprated steering rack mountings and a thorough service, at a total cost of over £3,700.

The car additionally benefits from a full stainless steel exhaust system, competition wire wheels with nearly new Pirelli P5 205/70/15 tyres all round, tinted Sundym glass and an immobiliser. Said to be in very good order throughout with excellent panel fit and superb road manners, the car is currently taxed and has an MOT until March 2009. Always garaged and mollycoddled in the current 13 year ownership, the car is only reluctantly being sold due to a hip injury which means the vendor can no longer comfortably drive it.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
