Restoring car, originally looks to be from Sacramento, any background on the car would be welcome.

Peter, if the car was originally a California car the VIN should have the prefix "J67". Those were applied to CA car via a small metal tag placed adjacent to the data plate.

It does have the J67 plate. Car now running!

Ebay item 11/30/20

www.ebay.com/itm/1967-Jaguar-E-Type/193772604543

Car has a buy it now price of $85,000 for 29 days, seller sfo_pete, 127k miles. Original VIN on this car would be J671E34177.

Seller's description:

1967 4.2L Series 1.25 Fixed Head Coop, California Car with nearly no rust, absolutely stunning car, older Carmen Red repaint, numbers matching engine but head replaced with proper S1 head, syncro 4 speed. Upgraded fuel pump, water pump, radiator, electric fan, gas tank cleaned, tool kit, beautiful Dunlop repro wheels with new Avon tires, diff rebuilt, high performance Wilwood disks up front, 3 point seat belts, Gaz shocks in rear, electronic ignition, modern stereo with BT. This car pulls strong and loves to run, head-turning beauty, a joy to drive. Mostly original interior and all the original parts including original set of spoked wheels and air box. Always starts and runs great, odometer reads 27K miles but likely 127K, we just don't know. A great driver or phenomenal car for an easy concours restoration.

I owned this car until earlier this year, sold and off to France. My goal was to resurrect 1E34177 and get her back on the road. Good luck to the new owner!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
