    Ebay item 1/24/10
    cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-1966-Jaguar-XKE-Coupe-4-2-Engine-All-Origi ...
Opening bid $19,999, no reserve, no bids yet 6 days left in auction.

    Sellers description:
This was my brother's XKE, we are selling it to close his estate. It has a very straight body, there is a ding in the front of the hood and in the front bumper. It appears to be all original and complete. He last had it licensed in 2005 and had it running since then. I was unable to get a spark from the distributor, it looks to have had some condensation and oxidization there. The motor turns over fine, the oil looks good, the gas probably needs to be drained and flushed. Because it was stored under a shed there is some moisture damage to the interior, some panels have swollen and the headliner looks discolored. The paint may be original, I can't tell. The only actual rust problem is the body directly under the battery (a common problem, I'm told). The windows work, the doors and hood operate properly and it appears to be a tune-up away from driveability. It appears to have the original 5 wire wheels and the seats have the original leather, cracked but not torn. The steering wheel has play from side to side, I have no idea if a bushing is missing or loose or what. All in all, if you want a Jag to restore, this looks like a great one to do. These photos were taken shortly after washing the car, some beads of water show in the photos and some water sprayed onto the engine.

Car to be at auction 8/11

    Auction description:
    Sale 19363 - Quail Lodge Sale, 18 Aug 2011 to 19 Aug 2011
    California, Carmel
    Lot No: 414
    Fresh from restoration
    1965 Jaguar 4.2-Liter Series 1 E-Type Coupe
    Chassis no. 1E 31973
    Engine no. 7E5909-9

This 1965 E-Type Fixed Head Coupe was manufactured in October, 1965. It has been restored to the configuration of the car that was on the stand at the Geneva Motor Show launch - opalescent silver gray exterior, dark red interior and European running lights.

Records with the car indicate that the first owner picked it up at the factory and took an extended tour of Europe. The first service was performed in Cannes and the second in Genoa. From that time it appears that the car spent its life in the Seattle, Washington area until purchased at an estate sale in February 2010. Service records indicate a complete engine and gearbox rebuild in 1984 with the odometer showing 96,000 miles.

The vendor has undertaken a complete restoration. All major metal parts were stripped and etched down to bare metal. No sheet metal replacement was required on the tub, doors, bonnet or rear hatch.

The engine was completely rebuilt including all new bearings on the turned crankshaft. All moving parts were replaced and the rear rope-type sear was replaced with a modern seal. The internal surfaces of the block were painted in Glyptal and the exhaust headers were re-porcelained. A high-speed fan with variable speed control was installed.

Other systems completely rebuilt include the gearbox, brake system, wiring and the steering and suspension. Over $8000 was spent just on rechroming. The only body repair necessary was to the lower right quarter panel where it appeared the factory had damaged the car and leaded it in.

This is an E-Type for the ages and the restoration has been completed in time for a new buyer to enjoy the car in a year when the automotive world's attention is focused on the model.

    Estimate: US$90,000 - 115,000

    Car now offered at:

    Sellers description:
Starting with a matching-numbers car manufactured October, 1965.
Sporting an opalescent silver gray exterior, dark red interior, and European running lights, this car could easily be mistaken for the original coupe used at the launch.

The vehicle was completely stripped down and all the major metal parts were stripped of paint and etched down to bare metal. Surprisingly, no sheet metal replacement was required on the tub, doors, bonnet or rear hatch. In fact, the entire car was in excellent condition. The taper on the cylinders walls was less than 0.002" indicating this car had been well maintained.

The engine was completely rebuilt, including all new bearings on the crankshaft (which was turned down 0.010"), big and small end connecting rods and camshafts. The rear seal was upgraded to a modern seal, the internal surfaces of the block painted in Glyptal. All the timing gears, chains and guides were replaced. In the cylinder head all the valves, springs, guides and tappets were replaced, the seats were resurfaced. A complete rebuild of the 3 SU carbs included new throttle shaft bushings. The exhaust manifolds were re-porcelained by Prairie Auto Porcelain and a stainless steel exhaust installed. A high performance cooling fan with variable speed controller was installed. The bulkhead coolant transfer pipes were replaced with stainless steel units. The standard points/condensor distributor was upgraded to a Pertronix high performance setup. A modern, high-torque starter was installed to provide years of care-free service.

The gearbox was completely stripped, all syncros, needle bearings, bearings and gaskets replaced. An alloy flywheel, new pressure plate assembly, clutch and throw-out bearing were installed. The master and slave cylinders were sleeved in stainless steel.

The independent rear suspension (IRS) was completely overhauled. This included: all new u-joints, new pinion seal, new differential clutch plates and output bearings, new hub fulcrum bearings and hub bearings and seals.

The entire brake system was rebuilt. This included having all wheel pistons and master/slave cylinders sleeved in brass or stainless steel by Apple Hydraulics - which will give years of excellent service. New brakes lines and all new brake rotors were installed, as was a new parking brake cable.

All of the wiring was replaced by color-correct harnesses from SNG Barratt. The full set of instruments were restored and calibrated, this includes an upgrade to the clock. The headlights and running light lens covers are done in the European manner (Lucas PL headlamps, clear/orange, red/orange lens covers) similar to the original coupe used at the E-type launch 50 years ago. The windscreen wiper assembly and heater fan motors were rebuilt.

    Car now offered at:

    Sellers description:
    Location: Emeryville, California 94608
    Condition: Excellent
    Exterior: Opalescent Silver Gray
    Interior: Dark Red Leather

    1965 Jaguar Series I E-Type 4.2 Coupe
    s/n 1E31973, engine no. 7E5909-9
Opalescent Silver Gray with Oxblood Leather Interior

This particular car is a beautifully restored matching-numbers example that is complete with thirty years of service records, Heritage Certificate, original books set, jack with bag, and tool roll with tools. Completed 6 October 1965, this car was originally primrose with a black interior and was delivered to its first owner, Mrs. B M Murphy of Pacific Palisades, California at the Jaguar Works in Coventry. She toured Europe with the car for several months--the first service was completed in Cannes in November of 1965, and the car's second service was completed in Genoa, Italy.

By the late 1970s, the car had made its way to the Seattle area. Service records dating back to 1985 show that it was purchased in May of 1985 by a long term keeper who kept the car for at least ten years, regularly servicing it along the way. In February 2010, a Portland, Oregon Jaguar collector acquired the car from an estate and set about performing a comprehensive restoration to high standards. Photos taken prior to the restoration show the car to be an undisturbed, unmodified primrose example and photos taken during the restoration reveal the car's excellent structural condition prior to the restoration. No sheetmetal was replaced in the tub, doors, bonnet, or rear hatch during the restoration. The cylinder bores were found to be in good shape prior to the restoration as well.

The restoration was very thorough, including engine, transmission, rear subframe, brakes, interior, body, chrome, and electrical systems. The engine rebuild included new bearings, timing gears, guides, and chains, cylinder head rebuilt with new valves, springs, tappets, and reground seats, rebuilt carburetors, stainless exhaust, electric fan, stainless bulkhead coolant transfer pipes, Pertronic ignition, high torque starter, and rebuilt alternator. The gearbox and driveline were also rebuilt with new bearings, synchromesh, new flywheel, pressure plate, clutch, and throwout bearing. The hydraulic system was also renewed with master and slave cylinders sleeved in stainless steel, rebuilt calipers, new pads and rotors, and new brake lines. The rear subframe and IRS were also rebuilt, with new U joints, seals, differential clutch plates, bearings, and rear brakes. The springs and torsion bars were also replaced, new shocks fitted, and new bushings throughout, including polyurethane suspension bushings. The wheel bearings, tie rods, steering column assembly, and steering rack were also rebuilt or replaced. A new wiring harness (correctly color coded from SNG Barratt) was also fitted, the instruments restored (including upgraded clock), lucas PL headlamps, and even rebuilt heater fan motors and windscreen wiper mechanisms. The body was completely stripped and refinished and all chrome renewed as well. The weather stripping was replaced as well, and new Dayton wire wheels fitted.

The car's current owner bought it in August of 2011 and has had it maintained with no expense spared by Steve Gordon's Vintage Auto Service, one of the San Francisco Bay Area's pre-eminent Jaguar specialists. The restoration is photo documented and there is also a thick file of invoices from the restoration, as well as a stack of records from the 1985-1994 period. Invoices for the work performed since the restoration are also present with the car.

Cosmetically, the car makes a very strong impression. The paintwork has a modern glossy look and was applied to high standards over straight and solid panels. The paintwork is nearly unmarked, with a few small marks on the front end from road use, and a handful of very small blemishes. The chrome is excellent overall, with a few light swirls. The glass and lights are also excellent, and the car is fitted with Lucas PL headlamps and amber European turn signal lenses. The wheels are excellent and wear Coker classic redline tires.

The interior was also restored to high standards with new leather, carpet, vinyl, and Hardura trim throughout. The headliner was also renewed and is of the correct wool broadcloth. The dashboard was restored, including instruments, switches, and controls. Correct rubber Jaguar floor mats are also present. A 15 inch steering wheel was fitted to provide the driver more legroom. The rear compartment was restored to equally high standards, including the spare, tire well, and fuel tank.

The engine compartment is also beautifully restored and detailed. The valve covers and carburetor float bowls are highly polished and the cylinder head (which matches, along with the block) is correctly finished in gold. The exhaust manifolds were re porcelain coated and are excellent, and the correct windscreen washer fluid tank and battery are in place. The firewall, chassis, and suspension have all been thoroughly restored and are highly detailed.

The car is a pleasure to drive, with a crisp, tight feel that reflects its recent restoration. The engine starts easily with properly functioning choke. The engine is well tuned, with plenty of torque and nice linear power delivery. It makes good power and provides effortless acceleration in any gear. The gearbox is a pleasure to use, with a slickness and ease of use that is modern in feel and allows the driver to row through the gears without devoting undue attention to the shift linkage or synchromesh. The brakes are effective and linear in their operation, and the steering and suspension are tight and communicative. The overall feel of the car is surprisingly modern and user-friendly, making this an ideal car to use and enjoy with minimal fatigue.

This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a comprehensively restored Series I 4.2 liter E-Type coupe with good history, completeness, and a beautiful color combination. A beautiful example with fantastic visual appeal, the car has been comprehensively restored in a timeless color combination and drives well very well. It is also highly complete with original books set, jack with jack bag, tool roll with tools, knock-off hammer, and thirty years of service records. Thanks to the hatch configuration of the E-Type coupe, it is also a surprisingly practical classic. E-Type coupes have appreciated considerably in recent years, and will likely continue to do so as more people become privy to their stylish and evocative motoring experience.

    Price: $195,000

Noticed this car on the Petrolicious website a few months ago, since it's the same year, specification and color as the one I'm currently restoring with my dad.

Showed it to him again today to look at some details and that's when we noticed they have consecutive numbers, my dad's is 1E31974 and came from the factory in Opalescent Gunmetal with red interior, which is the way it's going to be again.

We're hoping to get it to a similar standard as this, it looks fantastic.
