Sellers description:
We are delighted to offer this recently restored Lightweight Fixedhead Coupe, the previous owner lightened and uprated it to fast road specification.

The bonnet, doors, tailgate, tail section, widened rear arches, seats, facia, radiator and header tank are all fashioned in aluminium and the wheels in magnesium. The 320 bhp Lynx-built engine is coupled to a 4.2 litre E-Type five-speed gearbox. The suspension features stiffer rear springs, Leda dampers and 1 inch hollow torsion bars. This is a stunning example finished to the highest standard. Ideal for track days and sprinting or just a fast and fun road car.

Auction description:
Lot 226 - 1965 Jaguar E-Type SI Fixedhead Coupé to Lightweight Spec *WITHDRAWN*
Registration EOL 68C
Chassis Number 1E20400
Engine Number 7E3294/8
Estimate £75,000 - £95,000

This 1965 fixedhead coupé was purchased by the vendor in 2000 who planned a complete restoration. It was carried out between 2000 and 2006 to a staggering level of detail and dedication, resulting in one of the best looking E-Types offered on the market today. Finished in British Racing Green, this 4.2 litre fixedhead coupé has been built to semi-lightweight specification but with one important difference. The vendor wanted a car to not only look as good as it goes (and boy does it go) but to make it a pleasant place to be, somewhere you could comfortably sit for long periods and not exit covered in sweat with perforated eardrums. To achieve this the interior remains largely standard with the usual sound deadening, roof lining and carpets in place; he stopped short of adding a radio but, given the engine note from the Lynx engineered 320bhp fast-road engine on triple 45 DCOE Webber carburettors, who needs a radio?

The comprehensive restoration included new floor pans, transmission tunnel, complete boot floor in aluminium, aluminium blown rear arches making the car two inches wider than standard and an aluminium tailgate, new doors and bonnet. The Lynx Engineering engine is twinned with a Jaguar 4 speed gearbox and the car sits on magnesium 8" rear and 7" front wheels with discs all round. Standard rear callipers with SIII front callipers aids stopping power, while Leda 24 setting dampers all round allows the driver to set up for a racy fast drive around Goodwood or a lazy drive in the countryside. 1" hollow torsion bars, new wiring loom, aluminium radiator and header tank, long range fuel tank (in aluminium) and twin Facet fuel pumps were also part of the restoration, all resulting in the stunning car we have today.

To replicate this E-Type today would easily cost a new owner in excess of £200,000 and the quality of this restoration and unique build is unsurpassed; not only is she as tempting to drive as she looks, you can do so in comfort. Possibly a car that ticks every box....

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
