This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 roadster that was refurbished under previous ownership and is finished in tan over beige leather upholstery. Power is provided by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes a tan soft top, a louvered hood, glass headlight covers, four-wheel disc brakes, triple Weber 45DCOE carburetors, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels. The car was acquired by the seller in 2009, and service in 2019 is said to have involved adjusting the ride height, changing the transmission and differential fluids, installing upgraded camshafts and a Pertronix ignition system, and replacing the carburetor jets and shift-lever bushings. This Series 1.5 XKE is now offered with refurbishment photos, a convertible top cover, service records, and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Sable, the car was disassembled and placed on a rotisserie before receiving rust repairs and a repaint in tan under previous ownership. The floors, trunk floor, door sills, rocker panels, and lower bulkheads are said to have been replaced, and additional refurbishment work reportedly involved refinishing the exterior trim as well as installing a replacement tan soft top, window glass, and a louvered series-1 hood with covered headlights. Other exterior details include polished quad center-exit exhaust outlets and amber front turn signals.
Chrome 15” knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 195/65 Dunlop SP Sport 5000 tires that show 2003 date codes. The independent suspension has been fitted with Koni front shocks, rear coilovers, and an adjustable torsion bar reaction plate. The four-wheel disc brake system has been upgraded with Wilwood front components as well as rear calipers that were sourced from a Series-2 XKE. A set of spare Dunlop SP Sport 5000 tires are included in the sale.
The cabin was reportedly reupholstered under previous ownership and features seats trimmed in beige leather with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a height-adjustable rearview mirror, rocker switches for vehicle functions, an analog clock, and lap belts. The shift-lever springs and bushings are said to have been replaced in 2019.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. A suite of auxiliary gauges is found in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 77k miles, approximately 3k of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was reportedly rebuilt and bored 0.020″ over under previous ownership. It is equipped with triple Weber 45DCOE carburetors, a ceramic-coated exhaust manifold, and a Howe aluminum radiator with dual cooling fans. Work in 2019 is said to have included replacing the carburetor jets as well as installing aftermarket camshafts and a Pertronix electronic ignition system, and the spark plugs, heater control valve, and coolant hose were replaced in 2022. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The rear differential was reportedly overhauled and fitted with a finned cover under previous ownership, and the transmission and differential fluids were changed in 2019. The car is fitted with an ANSA exhaust system, and PPG Roadguard undercoating is said to have been applied to the underbody.
The Production Record Trace certificate indicates a manufacture date of April 29, 1968, and lists factory serial numbers and colors as well as distribution through Jaguar Cars of New York.
