RM auction, Monterey CA 8/18/2000 lot #145. Sports Car Market report:

"Decent driver. 4.2 engine, manual transmission. Good paint, leather and chrome. An older restoration, but holding up well. White paint can hide any number of body work sins; no mortal ones were found."

    Sellers description:
1968 Series I ½ E-type Jaguar. This particular car has undergone a full restoration in the late 90’s and was completed by 2000. The car has no signs of rust repair or any accident damage. It was completely refinished in elegant Old English White including all subframes and the underside of the bonnet. It is mechanically and aesthetically brilliant. This is not a 100 JCNA car that has to be pushed onto the field. This is a gorgeous OTS that will run with the best of them performing just as an E-type should. I took this car on a 150 mile tour in August and enjoyed every minute of it. Everything works and does what it should. This E-type has been greatly loved and maintained.

This has been the owner of the Sports Car Shop’s personal E-type since 2003. The car has been maintained and well kept as the grand E-type that it is. Absolutely stock, as it left the factory.

    Mechanical:
This E-type was restored several years ago to a very high level. Since then it has been very well cared and driven on tours and weekends. It is absolutely solid and correct. All systems work and work well. The motor sounds great and pulls hard. The transmission is quiet and shifts nicely, and does exactly what is should with no issues. Brakes are good with calipers resleeved in stainless. Suspension is tight and steering responsive. No clunks or rattles. Stainless exhaust has a wonderful tone.

I bought this car on 10-22-09. Very nice condition, paint very good, body very good, engine bay very good, interior good. Has some issues with accelerator linkage and on of switch for headlamps. I love the car, previously owned Ferrari 330GTCs, Dino, Boxer, Daytona. Finally something that's actually enoyable.

    Sellers description:
This lovely XKE is matching numbers of course, but more importantly, it's a car that is truly sorted for completely reliable weekend touring. We sold this car a number of years ago to a local client of ours. He kept this car exactly as it should be kept: he drove it every summer weekend, stored it properly every winter, and had it serviced rigorously by marque experts. It is truly turn key and ready now for spirited spring touring.

Finished in white with black Connolly leather and black Wilton wool carpets, the body of this car is absolutely razor straight and rust free. The underside and trunk floor are immaculate. All mechanical components are in perfect running condition including engine, transmission, brakes, exhaust, clutch, cooling system, electricals ... all perfect.

    To be sold without reserve
    Auction 22530:
    The Amelia Island Auction
    12 Mar 2015 12:00 EDT
    Chassis no. 1E17502
    Engine no. 7E16878-9

This numbers matching open headlight, late Series 1--colloquially known as a Series 1.5--Jaguar E-Type Roadster was built on March 29, 1968 and left the Browns Lane factory in Coventry just under a month later on the 24th of April. Finished in Ascot Fawn over Beige leather with Black soft top, it was originally imported through Jaguar Cars of New York. While the early history of this Jaguar is not known, by the late 1990s it had received a compete restoration and a color change to its current Old English White over Black leather before being sold in August of 2000 in California.

Trading hands a few times before ending up with its present owner, the car is said to be mechanically well kept and has always been garaged since its restoration. Fitted with its original, numbers matching engine--although the unstamped head would indicate that it is likely an NOS replacement, this elegant Jag may not be absolutely perfect but it is an eminently useable car that shows well. Devoid of the large taillights, heavy bumpers, and additional fittings that came to be a hallmark of later E-Types, the Series 1.5 retains all of the good looks and style of the Series 1 with the only major concession being headlights unencumbered by covers.

Accompanied by its original tool roll, jack, and spare, receipts documenting thousands regular maintenance and its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, an ear-to-ear grin is virtually guaranteed once out on the open road with the top down in this sleek Jag.

    Estimate: $210,000 - $240,000

This beautiful E-type was restored by Jaguar specialists and has been well maintained since. Jaguar Cars of New York originally imported the car shortly after it left the Browns Lane factory on April 24th, 1968. It presents wonderfully in Old English White with black leather interior and is in excellent driving condition. The odometer shows only 69,417 miles though the title shows exempt and it retains its original late 4.2 seats with adjustable backrests. Importantly, the original tool roll, jack, spare tire, maintenance receipts totaling thousands of dollars, and its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate are included with the sale.

This early 1968 Jaguar is one of the few E-types today popularly known as "Series 1.5" cars, as they utilize the open headlight bonnets but are otherwise very similar to the Series I cars, retaining the very favorable 4.2-liter engine. Restored by Jaguar professional and well cared for since. This matching-numbers Series 1.5 roadster was built on March 29, 1968, and left the Browns Lane factory in Coventry just under a month later, on April 24. It was imported through Jaguar Cars of New York. it is finished in Old English White over black leather and comes with a black soft-top. This E-type has its original fitted, late 4.2 seats that feature adjustable backrests, full instrumentation, fully synchronized transmission and dual fans for increased cooling ability. This marked the end of the small taillights, parking lights and bumpers, which kept the lines and beauty of the iconic E-type. It is accompanied by receipts documenting thousands of dollars in regular maintenance, as well as its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate. A recent service has been performed.

This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 open two-seater that was completed on March 29, 1968 and distributed in the US through Jaguar Cars of New York. The car was refurbished several years ago and acquired by its current owner in 2016. It is finished in Old English White over black leather and is powered by its numbers-matching 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six. Equipment includes twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, dual cooling fans, a four-speed manual gearbox, chrome wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and a black soft top. Service performed within the last two years included re-coring the radiator and cleaning and adjusting the carburetors, in addition to replacing the engine mounts, brake and clutch master cylinders, fan motors, and battery. This left-hand-drive XKE is now offered on dealer consignment in Portland, Oregon, with a service manual, Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records from the last four years, and a clean Washington title.

Originally finished in Ascot Fawn, the body wears an older repaint in Old English White. Series 1.5 XKEs shared the open headlights seen on Series II cars, but otherwise retained Series I exterior design elements, such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and a split rear bumper with taillights mounted above.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured by three-lobed knock-offs, which were introduced on US-market XKEs beginning in 1968. Vredestein Sprint Classic tires are mounted all around, as well as on the matching spare. The black soft top can be stowed under a color-matched boot.

The cabin is trimmed in black leather over the adjustable-backed seats, in lieu of the factory beige trim. Additional features include a wood-rimmed steering wheel, rocker-style switchgear, black rubber floor mats, and black lap belts with leaper buckles.

Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, both of which were repaired in August 2019. At the center of the dash a clock is flanked by gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 72k miles, 3k of which have been added during current ownership.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six in Series 1.5 variants features twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and is cooled by dual electric fans. The radiator was re-cored in December 2018, at which point a new brake pressure switch was also fitted. New brake and clutch master cylinders were installed in August 2019, along with a new thermostat, cooling hoses, fan motors, and horns. Service performed in 2020 included replacing both carburetor bowl gaskets as well as cleaning and adjusting the carburetors. The engine mounts were replaced in March 2020 along with the exhaust hangers and brakes hoses. A new battery has been installed by the selling dealer.

Block stamping 7E16878-9 matches the engine number listed on the JHT certificate.

Shifting is through a fully synchronized four-speed manual gearbox. The transmission fluid was changed in December 2018, and one of the mufflers was replaced with a used unit in October 2020. Four-wheel disc brakes were standard on the XKE, with the rear units located inboard. Suspension is independent all around.

The JHT certificate lists factory colors, component numbers, and delivery information.
