this car mis categorized as a series 1.5, it has been widely published that the series 1.5 did not begin until car 1E15980.

Not correct. This is a Series 1.5 per the JCNA '68 Judges' Guide, page 2, based on the OTS, LHD Build records. The Series 1 ended at 1E15888.

I agree. Looks like your website has also confirmed the same information in the "About the XKE" section under "Models", showing the differences between the 4.2 Series 1 and the Series 1/2. This car is a Series 1 1/2.

I believe I owned 15905 in the late 70's, early 80's. It was a series 1.5, having open headlights, but all other characteristics of series 1. D.B.

Possibly some correction has been made in the JCNA S1.5 judging guide? They state 1E15980 as the beginning of the S1.5 car and Doug's comment above would confirm it was not a S1.5. From January '67 Coventry built cars with open headlights with no other change to the car. To clear up confusion JCNA has adopted the name of S1.25, they don't like it either but it defines these cars. S1.5 cars were radically different, though the exterior was unchanged the interior and engine were as S2 cars.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
