Heritage Notes

Owner states that gearbox #EJ086 is currently in the car. Owner further states that the chassis number stamped on the data plate and subframe does not contain the "1E" prefix and only bears the "10009" mark. This omission of the "1E" prefix is consistent with Jaguar records for this vehicle.

Car has a buy it now price of $34,500 for 9 days.

Sellers description:
1965 XKE CONVERTIBLE--9TH 4.2 LHD MADE! CHASSIS# 10009

TRULY FOR THE COLLECTOR! 1975 Georgia title. Very solid. Engine turns. Car is 99% complete missing only armrests and passenger inside door and window handles. Originally red. The rear traling arm mounts in the rear floors are excellent as are the bonnet hinge mounts. I have attached closeups of these areas. In 40 years, this is the earliest 4.2 convertible I have seen.

According to Jaguar Archives in England, approximately the first 350 e-types with 4.2 engine did NOT have the "1E" prefix in the chassis number. I have owned 2 other cars like this and that prompted my call to the Archives several years ago to ask about this..

I will begin a full restoration of 1E10009 soon. I would be interested in hearing from others who have early 4.2 E-Types to discuss originality issues.

The "1E10009" listed as the chassis number above is incorrect. It should simply be "10009", as seen in the November 2009 picture.

2010-01-12 21:22:20  |  Craig Wolfe writes:

Jaguar Archives and the Heritage Certificate confirm that this vehicle is recorded in the archives as Chassis No. 1E10009 while the data plate and picture frame are stamped only with 10009 (i.e., no "1E"). Approximately the first 320 4.2L E-Types were delivered without the "1E" stamp.
